Andes Mountains, the longest chain of mountains above the sea level, stretching from the west coast of South America, with peaks over 20,000 feet high. Their name in Spanish is Cordillera de los Andes"(Andes Mountain Range).From Colombia to Argentina and Chile, the Andes host a multitude of rhythms and rich sounds. Famous among their instruments are the "zamponas" or bamboo panflutes, "quena" bamboo or wood flute and charango a small guitar and" bombo" a bass drum accompaniment made of wood and animal skin. |
